Carmenere was for so long thought to be Merlot until the latter part of the 20th century when it’s true identity was established. Chile is the undoubted modern day home and this excellent Reserva wine shows great class. Hand picked the grapes were given a cold soak before fermentation to obtain as much fruit and colour as possible without taking on any harsh tannins. 60% of the wine then was aged in oak for 10 months before blending and bottling. Aromas of fig and leather dominate plenty of berry fruit on the palate with chocolate notes in the finish. Smooth and full flavoured. Ideal with game and winter casseroles.
