The best known of the Crus of the Beaujolais and perhaps the most charming. The Clos de la roilette is named after a 19th century racehorse who was something of a legend but we didn't discover why! Alain Coudert, the owner and wine-maker is a most genial man and this personality radiates from his wine. As, the vineyard is situated on the Moulin a Vent side of Fleurie, you won't be surprised to find some characteristics in common and the depth of flavour is certainly greater than would be expected. Good colour with an immediate , open red fruit nose with hints of spice and cigar box (a tell-tale sign of Moulin a Vent!). On the palate it is open, ripe, superbly balanced with notes of cherries and raspberries, great structure and a full and lasting finish. Fantastic wine that will certainly live for another 6 to 8 years in bottle. Delicious!
