St Joseph 'Les Pierres' - Domaine Gaillard

This top cuvee of St Joseph is certainly true to its name with a stoney minerality underpinning the whole wine. Pure Syrah giving plenty of bright ripe blackcurrant fruit a little reminiscent of Australian Shiraz until you taste it. The palate is full and mineral with clean balancing acidity and big tannins. Ideal drunk at present with hearty meat dishes it certainly promises a further decade of life.
