Chateau Troplong Mondot Grand Cru Classe - St Emilion

Not only one of the largest estates in St Emilion but also one of the finest. With near perfect exposure of the vineyards that are rich in clay/limestone, the great partner to the merlot vine of which some are 90 years old here, everything is set to make the finest of St Emilions. 2001 is drinking perfectly now (2009) and though it will sustain in the bottle for a further decade, the fun starts here! With heady perfumes of black fruits and lead pencil, it is rich and concentrated on the palate with perfect balance and a delicious pure black fruit finish. A true joy to drink.
