Bodegas Sierra Cantabria
The Sierra Cantabria bodega, owned by the Eguren family, is based in the hill-top village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. It owns substantial vineyards which are able to furnish it with most of its needs, especially for its finest wines, and the very minimum of chemicals is used in the vineyards. Quality and style are the driving factors behind the wine-making, yet prices remain remarkably reasonable given the eminence of its wines, which have received glowing reviews from Robert Parker and other leading wine critics. This modern style of Rioja from the company’s own vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra where only grapes from vines of 50 years of age are used, is loaded with ripe black fruits, coffee and spices with well integrated oak flavours and an overcoat of ripe tannins.

The intense cherry colour leads to a nose of ripe crystallised fruit, spice, minerals, herbs and coffee. On the palate it is well structured, fleshy with savoury notes, good backbone and loaded with fruit, balanced by delicate smoky undertones.

This stunning new wine has an intense cherry colour with dark red tones and purple hues around the rim. It has an elegant fruity character, with stong notes of ripe blackberries and plums. In the mouth it is voluptuous and the fruit notes are echoed and combine effortlessly with the velvety tannins.

Pure Tempranillo aged in new French oak that is still evident behind the ripe black fruit, coffee and spice aromas, it is incredibly focused on the palate with a core of pure black fruit with mineral notes beneath, it is starting to drink (2009) but with an incredible life ahead of it.
