Chile

A short selection of wines which, as usual for Chile, offer great value for money as well as good varietal character.

The climate of the Chilean wine growing regions is so consistent that it has been possible to use Chile as a wine factory, producing plentiful, inexpensive wines of a good and regular quality. However, Chile is also making more serious wines from vines grown at altitude in cooler conditions. As might be expected of a relatively young industry, Chilean wine making has profited from the advice of expert wine-makers from all over the world, much foreign investment and modern techniques.

	Chardonnay Sol de Andes W2 2009 £5.75 Aromas of ripe pear and pineapple dominate, mixed with notes of butter and vanilla on the palate. This is certainly a fresh style of Chardonnay with good persistence in the finish.

	Rucahue Cabernet Franc Gran Reserva R2 2004 £9.70 Classic Cabernet Franc with accents of spice and toast and bursting with essences of blackcurrant, leather and cherry. Great structure and length with a fine finish. Hypnotic!
