Domaine Magellan

Domaine Magellan, owned by Brun Lafon, the younger brother of Dominic Lafon of the fabled Meursault estate, is based in the small village of Magalas close to Beziers in the Cotes du Thongue. The origins of the estate go back to the 1800s but since Bruno arrived in 1999 it has gone from strength to strength. As with all Burgundians, he is devoted to allowing the terroir to speak and each wine shows just what the land is capable of producing. The South of France in general has seen a huge developement over the last decade but here in Magellan, the wines are quite spectacular and offer great value for money.

	Ponant Grenache Blanc/Ugni Blanc W2 2005 5.11 Summer in a glass! The nose is immediate with loads of open blossom aromas. It has a good floral palate with notes of white fruits. Soft and generous with great balance and a ripe, elegant finish.
	Ponant Merlot/Grenache R2 2004 5.58 A perfect anytime red with it's heart very much in the South of France. Big upfront fruit with wonderful spice and great depth of flavour. Notes of green pepper dominate the palate in this chewy and ripe offering from Bruno Lafon.
