This blend of 60% Grenache 25% Syrah and 15% Mouvedre is typical of many Southern Rhone wines yet the quality and style here outshine many more expensive offerings. The aromas are those of black fruits with notes of spice and leather behind. Good power on the palate with a backbone of ripe tannins, flavours of stonefruits and cherries persist in the long finish.

With pale green notes in the pale yellow, it has intense aromas of flowers and fruit blossoms, a full yet elegant palate and a fresh, vibrant finish. Ideal with fish or poultry.

This is a little star that drinks well above its appellation. The wine shows great structure and balance with loads of developed fruit aromas and flavours combined with a good level of acidity to make it a perfect food wine. This inexpensive red is a terrific partner to all red meats and game and offers great value.

Well flavoured with good acidity and loaded with blossom style fruit, this is a wonderful white Rhone that is at its best with fish, especially Seabreem.

This top St Joseph from Louis Barruol’s negotiant company is a shining example of just what the appellation can offer. As yet it is tight and hard to approach yet the purity of fruit and overcoat of tannins gives it great potential for the future.

This stunning white Cotes du Rhone has 20 grams residual sugar which not only gives a hint of sweetness but also a richness on the palate. Aromas of blossom with citric notes give way to a rich, well proportioned palate with hints of almonds balancing the peachy fruit flavours.

Rich in fruit and spice with good backbone and structure, hints of liquorice and a long, full finish. Syrah at its best with a tantalising development as you drink down the bottle.

Pure Syrah giving plenty of bright ripe blackcurrant fruit a little reminiscent of Australian Shiraz until you taste it. The palate is full and mineral with clean balancing acidity and big tannins.

Superb concentration of ripe, white fruits, clear and defined acidity and a finish to die for! This rich and unctuous dessert wine is a real rarity!

Densely coloured with full on aromas of spicy black fruits backed by notes of wild thyme and lavender. Full flavoured, mouth filling and awash with ripe tannins, this is a keeper but can still be fun to drink now.

Drinking perfectly now, the wine shows incredible ripeness with black fruits dominating both the bouquet and the palate. The tannins are ripe and the tell-tale hints of bacon fat – a signature of Syrah – are displayed in the finish. A superb wine that more than warrants the cost.
