Last year, the Eguren family invited us to a party to celebrate 50 years of Sierra Cantabria. What a party! El Bulli did the catering and sensational it was too, but the highlight of the day was a series of tastings showing wines from decades ago to the modern day, all of which were quite superb. In fact, in the historic tasting was a wine that we sold when it was first released. I felt old!! Although we're not in a position to repeat these tastings, we thought it would be a good idea to prepare some cases of mixed wines offering something from each of their Bodegas both in Rioja and Toro to demonstrate the exceptional quality of their range. As you would expect, this is not a cheap case but to introduce you to the finer side of the range, we are offering a 15% discount on this this special case. As well as showing the Eguren quality, these are red wines that will make ideal partners to many of the season's foods.

Rioja Reserva Sierra Cantabria
Made with Tempranillo and Graciano from vineyards older than 30 years of age, this is a sensational Rioja loaded with ripe berry fruit combined with hints of toast and vanilla from the 18 months maturation in French and American oak. Terrific with red meats, roasts, stews and all types of game.

El Puntido 2004
The only holding of the Eguren family in the Rioja Alavesa in Paganos – Laguardia where the vines were coming up to 30 years of age for this vintage. Intense aromas of black fruits with pencil shavings and toast lead to a full and generous palate with good structure showing hints of spice with the fruit. Delicious now (2009) and for another 15 years.

Senorio De San Vicente 2004
An excellent vintage for this single vineyard Rioja from the Eguren stable and drinking perfectly now (2009). Plenty of ripe berry (black and red) fruit with notes of tobacco and spices. Rich and mouthfilling with decent structure, the wine shows great purity and culminates in a true and stylish finish. Should have the best part of another decade ahead of it.

Almirez 2007
The latest project of the Eguren family. Old Tempranillo vines (Tinto de Toro locally) give this excellent wine great depth whilst retaining an elegance. Bright fruit aromas and flavours dominate this well balanced and expressive red.
