Tuscany and Central Italy

Chianti has been an international favourite for donkey’s years. Remember the fiasco flasks that so many homes had as a table lamp?! Nowadays, Chianti remains the most famous of the Tuscany and central Italian wines yet other jewels like Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montipulciano can also be found at the top end of the wine market. Such lesser wines though nonetheless pleasing can be found under the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo label at a variety of prices and qualities. Whites are far superior to their predecessors with bright fruit aromas and flavours taking over from oxydised notes of the past. In all, Chiantishire and beyond is well worthy of discovery.

Fiore di Maggio - San Giorgio a Lapi

The great taste of Tuscany, captured in a bottle. Pure Sangiovese with loads of spicy cherry fruit and crunchy acidity. Really a food wine that partners so well with red meats.

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo - Casal Farneto

A fine example of this much maligned wine from central Italy. Great value too with full flavoured red fruit backed by complex notes of spice and tobacco. Best decanted as it has a fine sediment.
