The Veneto and north east Italian wines were dominated for many years by Soave and Valpolicella. Today, Pinot Grigio has become flavour of the month with vast quantities of low quality, low priced offerings flooding the market. Rest assured that there’s far more to the region than this. Pinot Grigio when well made can be quite exceptional and here you’ll find several examples of the same. Valpolicella and Soave too have come on leaps and bounds in the last few years with such wines as Amarone becoming very popular but the real jewels can be found in the Alto Adige where unknown varieties (such as Lagrein) or well known varieties (like Gewurztraminer) alike are produced on the steep hillsides.
