Madiran – Chateau d’Aydie
Overview
A modern style of Madiran designed to be drunk young. This blend of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon comes from the older vines of the property with the fruit hand harvested. The must then undergoes a cold soak before fermentation at 26°C followed by a further weeks skin contact. Ageing takes place in either tank (80%) or large barrels of 400 litres (20%) before bottling after 12 months. The winemaker has set out to express bright fruit with ripe tannins an objective well achieved. It has plenty of ripe black fruit aromas and flavours and will be best enjoyed young at around 16°C.
