Minervois Les Evangiles - Chateau Canet 2009
Overview
‘Les Evangiles’ is a small vineyard with old Syrah (80 years old) vines. It is the highest vineyard of the Domaine and has a great ‘terroir’ with deep soils of clay and limestone. The average yield is very small but also very concentrated (in 2007 they produced only 28 hectolitres to the hectare) and this provides the basis for a great wine. A long fermentation allows them to extract the full potential of the grapes after which the wine is matured in oak barrels from Burgundy ( 30% new, 40% one year old and 30% two year old barrels). This is a real sensation that is not to be missed. Pure fruit with mineral and notes of game, soft, ripe tannins and an incredible finish.
