San Vicente - Senorio de San Vicente 1998
Overview
This single vineyard in the Rioja Alta is planted with the Tempranillo Peludo grape – the ‘hairy’ Tempranillo – so called because of the little hairs on the leaf. It is an old clone of the grape and is naturally low cropping delivering intensely flavoured fruit. Now (2011) in perfect maturity the aromas are reminiscent of mature Burgundy with notes of undergrowth and animal scents beneath the berry fruit. Good length in the finish it makes an excellent partner to game and lamb casseroles.
