Chateau Famaey is a rather special property situated close to the picturesque town of Puy l'Eveque in the heart of the Cahors appellation and has been brought to stardom by 2 Flemish families. Luc Luyckx, his son Maarten and Marc van Antwerpen are passionate about Cahors and the Malbec grape. With vineyards on the 2nd and 3rd terraces (the finest land) they strive to farm them in as natural a way possible to ensure the finest and purest of wines.
Each cuvee at Chateau Famaey is worked individually, respecting the origin of the grapes and the age of the vines. These are wines of tradition, quality and style that demonstrate what a truly wonderful grape variety Malbec can be in the right hands. This area is the true home of the grape variety and certainly the wines of the third terrace can be quite magnificent.
The vines of Chateau Famaey are aged 25 to 50 years, making this a fully matured vineyard. Permanent care and respect for nature are key to their cultivation techniques and the yields are very carefully controlled in order to produce a rich, honest and authentic grape. The best parcels of the vineyard are harvested manually, turning the vendange (grape harvest) into a traditional celebration.
