Chateau la Variere - Anjou

The Chateau la Variere estate dates back to the 15th century. Situated in the town of Brissac-Quince in the Anjou region, the property was acquired by the Beaujeau family in 1850 and now, seven generations later Jaques Beaujeau is at the helm, making wines of great finesse and character that are way above the quality of the mass market yet remaining good value for money.

Jacque's philosophy for the wines of Chateau la Variere is that there must be no difference between the care put into vinification and the vine-growing process for without good grapes, there is no good wine.He recognises that the sense of "terroir" is essential  and says "We are not magicians. You can be the best vine-grower and wine-maker but without a good terroir you will never make a great wine".

The wines of La Variere are succlent and fruity for the rose and the whites with the reds making a great accompaniment to summer lunches or lighter dishes, especially if served cool. This great style was recognised when Jacques was nominated for the prestigious French Wine-maker of the Year at the London International Wine and Spirit competition in 2003.
