Domaine Chanzy is based in the small village of Bouzeron just 3 kilometers south of Chagny. Vines were first planted there by the monks from the Abbey of Cluny, once the largest church in Chistendom. In the eighteenth century the first reference to Aligote was noted which today is the only grape variety allowed for the appellation of Bouzeron.
We buy mainly Mercurey from Domaine Chanzy, wines that are classic red and white Burgundies from the Chalonnaise, wines with good fruit and structure with reds that can occasionally border on the rustic which makes them exceedingly good for quaffing with hearty food.
Some new oak is used at Chanzy but only sparingly allowing the fruit to be foremost and retaining great freshness in each cuvee. They are predominently wines for youngish drinking although the premier cru reds will have good staying power in bottle.
