Domaine Darragon is based in the hamlet of Sanzelle, just out side the village of Vouvray. We've been buying the wines of this estate for many years now after it took about two years to get samples that weren't broken in transit by the French post or our visit to the estate having to be aborted due to thick fog! It was well worth the wait for these are some of the greatest wines of the appellation.
Pierre Darragon makes only white wines, as do most other growers in this region and all are derived from the Chenin Blanc grape. Whether dry, demi-sec or moelleux, this grape delivers delicious wines that are capable of ageing. However, all too often, the wines are over-sulphured and thus are less than charming on the palate. Non of this here. Pierre's wines are always clean, fresh and well fruited no matter what the style.
The first time we went to taste at the estate, we took the time to taste throughout the area and at some of the most renowned growers yet Darragon's wines were head and shoulders above anything else we tasted and we have consistently enjoyed them ever since, as do a great number of our restaurant clients.
