Domaine Lucien Boillot - Gevrey Chambertin
Lucien Boillot was originally from Volnay but emigrated to Gevrey Chambertin back in 1950 - the other end of the earth in those days!
This is when he created Domaine Lucien Boillot which eventually passed to his two sons, Pierre and Louis. Together they worked the land and the cellar until the latter's marriage back in 2003 when the estate was split to give each son a share of the vineyards and income. Pierre continued to use the original estate name but the style has changed, for them both actually, if only in a small way, as each brother no longer makes any compromise in his wine-making and does exactly what he believes is best.
Domaine Lucien Boillot now consists of 7 hectares of vineyards predominantly in the Cote de Nuits. However the parcel of old vines in the Gevrey Chambertin Les Evocelles vineyards remains a little jewel always offering great style and value. There's also a touch of Volnay 1er Cru from the Caillerets vineyard which is quite sublime also.

The 1er Cru vineyard of les Pruliers lies in the heart of the cote just south of the town of Nuits St Georges. A full flavoured Burgundy with developed aromas and flavours and a long finish.

Now that Pierre Boillot is running the show alone, the wines have a little more elegance but remain the same quality. This is an excellent village Gevrey full of dark black fruit and solid tannins.

A good village wine that's drinking well at the moment. The tannins are good but ripe and support without interfering. Black fruit dominates with a hint of licorice too. perfect for now!

This small vineyard in Brochon is not 1er cru but certainly is of the standard to be one. The classic 2008 vintage is ideal for this cuvee and this is without doubt a terrific example of Gevrey Chambertin.
