Domaine Ramonet is probably the most sought-after estate in Chassagne-Montrachet and it has generated a keen following amongst wine lovers throughout the world.
It was originally Ramonet's white wines that claimed the limelight but today the reds are venerated just as much. There are no grand cru holdings amongst the reds but the Clos de la Boudriotte is a very special 1er cru. Of the whites, the Le Montrachet and various Batard vineyards are made into rich, long-lived wines here and these are often compared with some of the more fabled estates of the Cote d'Or. However, on a more realistic level, the vineyards of Ruchottes and Vergers are always delicious wines yet still capable of great age.
Pierre Ramonet, the estates founder, certainly chose well by selecting his grandson Noel to succeed him at the helm. This is a wonderful estate that should be represented in everybody's cellar.
