Giuseppe Mascarello is based in the commune of Castiglione Falletto and Mauro, the present owner, is one of the most classical producers of Barolo. He has never experimented with new oak barriques but instead prefers the traditional larger oak and chestnut "foudres" of the region.
The jewel in the crown of Giuseppe Mascarello is undoubtably the Monprivato vineyard which the family own in its entirity. As well as producing the most wonderful Barolo this is an historically famous site which was mentioned in the land registry as far back as 1666. These are wines capable of great age which will more than justify a place in any cellar.
But Giuseppe Mascarello has more to offer than simply Barolo! Such gems as the Dolcetta d'Alba from the hamlet of Santa Stefano di Perno is quite sublime, one of the best examples of Dolcetto from this or indeed any other region. Mauro is a most genial man and his wines certainly express his warm personality.
