The history of Mas Amiel can be traced back to 1816, but it was with it''s aquisition in 1999 by Olivier Decelle that today''s winemaking got underway.Located in the heart of the Agly valley near Maury, the estate is protected to the north by the Corbiere Hills and to the south by the Pyrenees with the 170 hectares of vines grown on the rocky outcrops.
The semi-arid Mediterranean climate of the Mas Amiel vineyards is ideally suited to the Grenache grape and their Vin Doux Naturel is a great example with great purity of fruit. Unlike most Vin Doux Naturels, Mas Amiel block the yeasts very early in the production process making it a long, slow process to extract the essence of the grape.
Mas Amiel now enjoys a world-wide reputation for all of their wines with the flagship being this vinatge Maury Cuvee.
