Rams Leap - New South Wales
Rams Leap Wines are based on the edge of the outback in Merryanbone some 7 hours north-west of Sydney. This vineyard was mapped out many years ago but it is only over the past 10 years that grapes have been grown on the old river bed.
The Rams Leap vineyards are drip irrigrated and fully computerised to ensure the careful use of water usage and quality control of the crop. The use of technology also facilitates the exact stressing of the vines at certain times of the growing season in order to highten quality. Winemaker Simon Gilbert is a really talented guy and is making stunning varietal wines with abundant fruit qualities yet retaining elegance and finesse.
Shane Mcloughlin is the owner of Rams Leap - initially an international oarsman - and it's his dedication to the Shiraz grape variety that is now being rewarded as the vineyards come into maturity. Shane is always assisted by his chaming wife Tessa and his energetic Jack Russell, Frank!

This is a really special wine from Shane McLoughlin that is suitable for just about any palate. Ripe passionfruit notes with a gentle acidity and a faint touch of residual sugar. wonderful in the summer.

A great little wine from Shane Mcloughlin on his organically farmed estate on the edge of the Outback. Delicious plum fruit with notes of meat and some lead pencil too. Soft and ripe in the finish.

The Semillon comes from Shane McLoughlin's property in Merryanbone whilst the Sauvignon is high altitude fruit from Orange. Fresh and zesty with a lovely citric streak.

A full-on Australian Shiraz with more than a hint of France's Rhone Valley about it. As well as the bright blackberry fruit there are hints of bacon fat above all wrapped in an overcoat of ripe tannins.
