The Urban winery is fairly modern by european standards and was born out of the profits of Snr Fornier''s Ribera del Duero winery. He is striving to be amongst the top producers of Mendoza and early results are looking good. There are also vineyards situated in Salta where the white Torrontes grape fares well. Certainly a bodega to watch.
The location of the Urban Winery close to the Andes at an altitude of 4000 ft above sea level, produces fabulous quality grapes due to extreme diurnal temperatures and long ripening time. It is also renowned for old vine Tempranillo blended with Malbec. Torrontes comes from Salta where vineyards with lower latitudes and higher altitudes than almost any in the world, balance each other out, producing an excellent climate for quality viticulture.
The Urban Winery's mission is to become one of the most outstanding, high quality wineries in Argentina and it seems to be on track with countless appearances in the press and Decanter magazine heralding the producer as an ‘Icon of Tomorrow’.
