This fashionable Malbec has been produced for us by Floris Lemstra at Chateau Canet. With the 2016 vintage being very weak in Mendoza, we decided to look to Malbec's original home for a quaffing wine and Floris has turned out a winner! Grown under the warm Mediterranean sun of the Languedoc, the wine has good structure with plenty of flavours of blackberry, plums and black cherries all wrapped up with some soft ripe tannins. This is a wine superbly suited to a barbecued steak or it's equally at home with a Sunday roast.

Why we like this wine

Malbec has become such a popular grape variety these days yet the lesser wines of Argentina don't always deliver the goods. Floris Lemstra has crafted something really good from Malbec grown in the South of France but in a more Argentinian style. We're sure you'll really enjoy this and it represents great value too.

  • Excellent Malbec from the South of France
  • Really good value for money
  • Just the thing for red meats

About the grower

The Joly family has been growing vines in the heart of the Champagne region for over a century. In the early 1970s, Georges Joly and his sons created the Veuve Doussot brand, named in honour of his grandmother. Stephan and Sylvie Joly are very proud to continue this family winemaking history and to pursue the tradition of high quality set by their grandfather, father and uncles.

The Joly family favours a reasoned and sustainable approach to viticulture, not totally organic but respecting the balance and traditions of the vineyard and keeping vine treatments to an absolute minimum. At Veuve Doussot, they strive to maintain their heritage with the highest quality wines that they can produce.

Cultivating, picking, vinifying, blending: each step is done with the same passion, making each cuvée truly special. Every glass of Veuve Doussot Champagne generously rewards the patience and dedication needed to create a wines of such excellence.
