A selection of great Spanish wines that offer incredible value.

In white wines, we are offering two. Firstly the Blanc de Pacs from Pares Balta, a wine made with the same varieties as Cava in the Penedes but without the fizz! This is an incredible white wine that was produced organically and it is also vegan certified. It’s a blend of Parellada, Macabeo/Viura and Xarel.lo that has a decent mineral undercarriage, loads of orchard fruits on the nose and on the palate with a backing of citrus fruits. Lip-smacking good and ideal with seafood or shellfish.

The next white wine is the Verdejo from Valdelainos. Verdejo is the great grape variety and has really put the area of Rueda on the map over the last few decades. Spanish white wine was so often oxidised and virtually undrinkable but this shows just how things have changed and just how much fruit can be achieved from the grape here in central Spain. It’s almost like Sauvignon on the nose with clean, crisp fruit balanced by some tropical notes. It has good acidity too making it a great partner to many foods especially white fish.

We have selected two wines from Bodegas Care, the first being a rose made from Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. This is called Solidarity rose as some of the sale proceeds go towards a breast cancer charity. The label is a bit wacky but the wine is great and ideal for cool summer drinking. Red fruits dominate with a touch of caramel behind and a very refreshing clip of acidity.

The last wine, again from Bodegas Care, is the Garnacha Nativa from their old vines in Carinena – over 50 years old – that have given great fruit for the winemaker to craft into this delicious red. Dark cherry and raspberry on the palate with hints of mocha and a smooth and luscious body fill the mouth and the tannins are full yet smooth. An ideal wine for red meats especially roast lamb (as you would expect from Spain) that will delight just about all tastes.
