Classic French Whites - 6 bottle mixed case

by Mixed
£77.00

France is very often regarded as the birthplace of fine wines and there are still many who for high quality wines, drink nothing else. Here we have assembled what we believe to be 6 superb wines that don't cost the earth but offer incredible quality drinking.

The case consists of one bottle each of:

Macon Peronne - Domaine du Bicheron

Domaine Du Bicheron Macon-Peronne is a wine of true class at an everyday price. It displays all of the clarity that fine Mâcon Blanc can offer. The aromas are floral with dominant notes of hawthorn. The palate shows abundant apple fruit with a suggestion of citrus, great purity and an underpinning minerality that makes it a wonderful food partner. No oak is used here, so that the wine reveals all of the freshness that Chardonnay can give.

Petit Chablis - Domaine Vrignaud

Many Petit Chablis lack the limestone underpinning that makes Chablis what it is. This however lacks nothing and shows all of the traits that make Chablis so attractive. The nose offers acacia-tinged, lively, citrus fruit and a light sea shore/iodine note that opens nicely. The palate is round, fruity and fresh with well an upright, mineral and acid core balancing the citrus flavours. Clean, crisp and gently saline on the finish.

Muscadet Vieille Vignes 1er Cru du Chateau de la Ragotiere

The nose of the pleasingly pale yellow Chateau De La Ragotiere Muscadet De Sevre Et Maine Sur Lie is dominated by mineral aromas. It registers again on the lean, dry palate, where white fruit and floral flavours also develop. Finally, on the finish, this expressive cuvée reverts to the stoney, mineral characters so recognisable with Muscadet. Fish and shellfish are a must with this!

Vouvray Sec "Les Tuffes" - Domaine Darragon

This is a simply stunning Vouvray with delicious apple fruit balanced by a mineral undercarriage and a bright and very refreshing acidity. The aromas burst from the glass and when the wine has finally left your palate, the lingering flavour is long and very fresh. Just the thing to drink with some fine fish or shellfish but it will be equally at home with chicken or roasted Guinea Fowl.

Cotes du Rhone Blanc - Chateau St Roch

Chateau Saint-Roch Cotes Du Rhone Blanc has lemon and grapefruit citrus notes on the nose, plus white blossom. It is fresh and clean on the palate, underpinned by a stoney minerality. With white meats and fish it is a joy to drink but to really make your palate come alive, enjoy it as an apéritif.

Rully - Cave de Buxy

100% unoaked Chardonnay that really delivers terrific fruit flavours in a mineral overcoat. It was fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve as much of the pure fruit flavour and aromas as possible and that shows all of the finesse that you would expect.  Golden with a few green tinges, the wine opens with a fresh nose of acacia and honeysuckle which evolve with oxygen into notes of honey, quince and dried fruits. The palate is supported by a full minerality and a fresh acidity that delivers the pure fruit notes.
