Rolf Binder Hales Shiraz
Rolf Binder Hales Shiraz is a deep, blood red wine that fills the glass with aromas of rich red berries and dark bitter chocolate. Dark cherries enhanced with cassis, anise and pepper mingle on the medium to full bodied palate. Creamy tannins and complex acidity lends to the overall perception of a smooth, rich red wine, with a lovely persistence of flavour.

A collection of five Barossa Valley Shiraz vineyards contributed fruit with varying characteristics, adding a nice complexity to this Rolf Binder Hales Shiraz. The vineyards in the northern region of the Barossa are known for adding depth and weight to a wine, while the vineyards in the Marananga bowl have given the wine power and length.
The grapes were picked over a period of three weeks and all of the batches were crushed as one, using the traditional pump over method or heading downboards during the fermentation. After pressing, the separate free run juice and pressings are blended back together. Maturation took place in American and French oak hogshead barrels. This wood was chosen to add a texture of oak to the wine, balancing the wonderful, natural, fruit flavours that the vintage provided.
Why we like this wine
Barossa Valley Shiraz should be powerful and with plenty of ripe balck fruit flavours. This certainly has both and the winemaking skills of Rolf Binder have delivered a wine that is perfectly balanced, not overly alcoholic (something that can mask the complex nuances of a wine) and with delicious black fruit flavours. This is a wine destined for red meat dishes especially grilled or barbecued steaks.
- A perfect example of Barossa Shiraz
- Bold but not overblown
- A perfect partner for red meats
