Chateau Lestage - Cru Bourgeois, Listrac, Haut Medoc 2009
A soft and generous claret from this excellent vintage. Easy drinking with loads of plummy fruit backed by some firm tannins and a generous finish.
The property has been owned by the Chanfreau family for the last 50 odd years and it is located in Puy de Menjon which is renowned for being at the highest part of the Medoc. Mind you, at just 43 meters, that's not much to shout about! The good news is that the plateau has gravel based soils, good for the Cabernet element of the blend whilst the slopes are of clay limestone which suits well the Merlot element. There is also a small touch of Petit Verdot.
It is vinified parcel by parcel before ageing for 12 months in oak casks, 1/3rd of which are new.
Grape Variety: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot
