France is very often regarded as the birthplace of fine wines and there are still many who for high quality wines, drink nothing else. Here we have assembled what we believe to be 6 superb wines that don't cost the earth but offer incredible quality drinking.

Each case contains 1 bottle each of:

Beaujolais Villages - Didier Desvignes 2020

Didier Desvignes Domaine Du Calvaire De Roche-Gres Beaujolais-Villages is from one of the great producers of the region, and this easy drinking yet surprisingly substantial Beaujolais-Villages does exactly what it says on the tin! It is beautifully balanced, with delicious black cherry fruit, fine, smooth tannins and refreshing acidity that brings the palate to life. Just the thing for quaffing with some poultry or charcuterie. The only problem is one bottle leads to another!

Minervois Rouge - Chateau Canet 2019

Chateau Canet Minervois Rouge has elegant blackberry, cherry and blackcurrant aromas with a floral, violet note and a savoury bacon fat element typical of Syrah. At first the sweet, dark, berry fruit dominates the palate, but spice flavours and ripe, velvety tannins step forward to add complex appeal. Long on the finish, this is a class act that keeps tempting you back for more.

Rasteau - Chateau de la Gardine 2017

Chateau De La Gardine Rasteau has a beautiful deep garnet colour with purple hues. Notes of blackcurrant, violets, blackberry and liquorice on the nose, with aromas of prunes, dates and leather developing with age. The palate is juicy, generous and framed by elegant and tight tannins. Over time, more complex aromas of cherry clafoutis and kirsch reveal themselves.

La Croix du Chateau Feret Lambert 2016

This is one of the  second selections of the Chateau Feret Lambert. As a Bordeaux Superieur it is well flavoured with plenty of plum and blackcurrant fruit with some floral notes above. It has a good juicy acidity and some moderate tannins. Just starting its drinking window it has some decent life ahead of it. Mainly Merlot with 15% of Cabernet Franc. Silver Medal Winner

Cahors Tradition - Chateau Flore 2018

A superb, fruity and easy drinking Cahors with good smooth Malbec character and plenty of red berry and plum flavours. No oak was used in the production and thus the fruit is foremost. This is a generous and soft textured Cahors with velvety tannins and plenty of ripe, spicy black fruit flavours. Great value Cahors with good character and flavour without too much tannin to interfere with drinking it young. Ideal with most red meats and game.

Rouge du Gala - Domaine Horgelus 2019

Domaine Horgelus red wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat, the latter being a local grape variety making rich and powerful reds. The wine has a fabulous concentration with aromas of blackcurrant, liquorice and spices. On the palate it has soft, ripe tannins to support the dark fruit flavours. Smooth and deeply flavoured
