Domaine Wardy - Lebanon

Wines have been produced in the Beqaa (Bekaa) Valley for the last 6000 years so no matter when this estate was born, it is certainly in modern times. A rather remarkable woman by the name of Wardy Mousallem was the origin of both the estate and the name, taking over both the vineyards and the orchards of her husband after he was killed by the Ottoman Army.

There is still a lady at the helm today - winemaker Diana Salameh Khalil - who studied in Burgundy and worked at the world famous Domaine Leflaive in Puligny Montrachet and then at Jeanjean in the Languedoc, two sides of the same coin, before being appointed as winemaker at Domaine Wardy in 2002.

The wines these days are, as you may expect, elegant pieces of filigree with exceptional complexity and generosity. Although we don't keep the whole range of the wines, we certainly believe the Les Terroirs represents very good value coming from this historic wine region where prices are notoriously high.
