Hungary

Hungary has a wine culture dating back centuries but with the Communist regime in power, it rather lost its appeal to western nations. When the Iron Curtain came down, western investore were quick to come in and invest in the industry there as regions such as Tokaji were easily recognisable as have some of the best terroir in the world.

Now the sweet wines (and even the dry wines) of Tokaji are back to their incredible best and are without doubt, world class. But other regions are starting to get recognition and rightly so for the wine-making has come on leaps and bounds in the last two decades and the terroir has always been there to grow fine quality grapes.

Although our list remains quite small for Hungarian wines, watch out in the near future as more are bound to appear.
