Producer of the month, August – Domaine Rapet

Domaine Rapet is an historic estate based in Pernand Vergelesses in the north of Burgundy’s Cote de Beaune.

Today it is run by Vincent and Sylvette Rapet and they are making a splendid job of it. Although it is not organic, they try to stay as close to nature as you can and as is typical for burgundy, ploughing between rows is an essential part of their vineyard management. They take their work in the vineyards extremely seriously and it is through this work that the quality of the harvest is always the best.

Pernand Vergelesses is perhaps not the best known village in Burgundy, possibly because it is difficult to pronounce but be assured that the wines are first class. Dependant on the particular vineyard, the wines have more or less mineral content which underpins the juice and makes the wines so very appealing with food. The neighbouring appellation of Corton is however well known and these wines are always the first to sell out.

We currently have decent stocks of their wines from the 13, 15 and 17 vintages, all of which are excellent for current drinking. If you haven’t already fallen in love with these wines, do give them a try. Burgundy isn’t cheap these days but here you will find some of the best value for money in the Cote d’O.
