Château Canet Minervois Les Evangiles
Chateau Canet Minervois Les Evangiles is a powerful and concentrated wine, with aromas of blackberries, violets, hint of mocha and vanilla. The full bodied and richly fruited palate is sustained by soft and velvety tannins, and the lengthy finish displays even more dark, ripe, minerally and gamey Syrah fruit.

Les Evangiles is a small vineyard of very old Syrah vines. It is the highest vineyard of the Château Canet estate and it has deep soils of clay and limestone. As with the La Chapelle vineyard, the average yield is very small but also very concentrated (in 2007 it produced only 24 hectolitres to the hectare) and this provides the basis for a great wine.
Unlike the La Chapelle however, the Château Canet Minervois Les Evangiles is wholly matured in Burgundian oak barrels, 30% of which are new, 40% are one year old and 30% are two years old.
Why we like this wine
This is probably the finest expression of Minervois we have ever tasted. The old vines give incredible fruit even in the most difficult of vintages, albeit in very small quantities. Floris Lemstra has crafted the most magnificent wine here and one that should be kept in every cellar. You can drink it young but it will also be good for keeping if you can avoid the temptation of a corkscrew!
- The ultimate Minervois
- Powerful yet fine
- Good for now or the future
