Chateau Canon la Gaffeliere - St Emilion Grand Cru Classe 2017

Another excellent wine from the Von Niepperg stable. A blend of Merlot 60% Cabernet Franc 30% and Cabernet Sauvignon 10%, where the fruit was affected by the frost and so the wine is a considerable proportion of second generation grapes. That said, it still gives good quality with bold dark fruit aromas and flavours with blackcurrant evident alongside some raspberry notes. The tannins are fairly bold but are starting to soften now and the freshness gives good life to the wine.
