Ciabot Berton 3 Utin Langhe Nebbiolo

Ciabot Berton's 3 Utin Nebbiolo has a ruby red colour of medium intensity. The aromas are fruity with notes of bramble, rose and spice together with hints of violet. It is well-balanced and nicely rounded thanks to its sojourn in old oak; lightly tannic and savoury with good length and a dark fruit finish.

3 Utin is made from the fruit of the young vines of Ciabot Berton's Barolo vineyards in La Morra, and this excellent Langhe Nebbiolo shows all of the class of Barolo but is better suited to younger drinking. At ten years old most other producers would hardly consider them to still be young vines, but fortunately for us Marco and Paola Oberto are not people who take such matters lightly. The grapes are given a shorter maceration period than those used for Barolo, before the wine is matured in 25 hectolitre Slavonian oak botti for about 12 months. These methods imbue 3 Utin with all of the character of a Barolo yet in a more approachable form, and it is also slightly lighter in alcohol.

Why we like this wine

Barolo is one of the world's great red wines but good examples don't come cheap. This Nebbiolo shows all the character and class or an aged Barolo but without the price tag. With its slightly lower alcohol you can have an extra glass too!

  • Better than many Barolos
  • Perfect for drinking now
  • Good value for money
