The Glenelly Estate Reserve Rouge has a dark, deep and rich ruby colour. There are aromas of blackcurrant and spicy plum fruit, with notes of toast, tobacco and cedar in the background of the complex yet elegant nose. The palate has a great intensity and concentration, fantastic freshness and fine, elegant, but well structured tannins, with oak that is balanced and nicely integrated.

Cool, wet weather from June to September after the 2010 harvest had turned around by December which was warm and dry. Early January was cooler, but by the middle of the month the good weather returned and it remained hot right through to harvesting in March. The grapes were hand sorted and lightly crushed into stainless steel tanks for fermentation. The 2011 Glenelly Estate Reserve Rouge then went into French barrels to mature for 18 months.

From Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages:
42% Shiraz, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot. Biscuity, savoury, spiced aroma. You can see the Bordeaux/Stellenbosch crossover here - dry finesse in the tannins but they are firm and thick from the oak. Dark and just a little meaty. Big and bold but still refined and still fresh for a warm vintage. Drink 2016-2023. 17+ Points

From Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
The 2011 Glenelly Estate Reserve is a late release because the Shiraz took longer to mature and integrate with the Cabernet. A blend of 42% Shiraz, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, it has an intense bouquet with liquorice-tinged black fruit, incense and touch of marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well judged acidity, and clove-tinged black fruit with a sedate and harmonious finish. This feels very accomplished. 92 Points
