Trentham Estate - The Family Nebbiolo

Trentham Estate's 'The Family' range of wines are a nod back to their heritage, with a selection of Italian Varietals celebrating its influence on grape growing and wine making.

This is a red that – although lighter in colour – packs a big punch in terms of flavour.

The aromas are complex with plenty of spice and berry notes, while the palate has big fruit flavours of blackberry and plum which blend well with the spice components.

Ripe tannins add structure to this deeply flavoured and earthy red.

Budding was stimulated two weeks earlier than typical in the region, due to warm weather for November.

This resulted in grapes reaching maturity sooner than usual but the consistent dryness and mild temperatures ensured even ripening and high-quality fruit.

The grapes were crushed and transferred to a tank for inoculation with yeast before an eight day fermentation period.

To maintain temperature consistency, as well as aid tannin and colour extraction from the grape skins, regular pump overs were applied.

After fermentation, it was pressed into old French oak casks, for a maturation period of one year.

Following this, prior to bottling, it was blended, stabilised and clarified.
