Rioja & other Spanish Wines

Whenever we get to this time of year I always think of the March Hare. It is one of the characters in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Although that is how he was known previously, his true name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgeson and he lived close to Gerrard Seel in the village of Daresbury.

Anyway, enough of that. I have some wonderful memories of a battle between a hare and an eagle one morning in Rioja when we were coming down from a slight hill in the vineyards with one of the growers in his 4x4. Without any warning, a hare shot in front of the vehicle closely followed by an eagle giving chase. They battled for around 10 minutes before the hare finally escaped in the vines to live another day.

It was an incredible battle to watch and both animals fought so hard. We were so pleased the hare escaped and lived to fight another day. So we didn’t have hare for lunch that day but we did enjoy some flavoursome Rioja with a delicious piece of pork. So here are a few Riojas and other Spanish wines for you to enjoy!
