Save 15% on Sauvignon Blanc
Well, this is very much the time of year when Sauvignon Blanc is just the thing to refresh the thirst. But this year it’s been harder and harder to get hold of, especially if you are a Marlborough fan. But here we have selected 5 wines from other regions that guarantee very enjoyable drinking and all at very affordable prices. Especially with an extra 15% discount to help out.
The first is a delicious and lip-smacking Sauvignon from our good friend Floris Lemstra at Chateau Canet. It’s the Chapeau Noir Sauvignon from the Languedoc. This is an attractively aromatic Sauvignon Blanc with pronounced gooseberry and citrus notes, hints of fresh cut hay on the palate with a crisp and thirst-quenching finish. It’s a brilliant partner to shellfish, goat's cheese dishes, poultry and pasta and an absolute joy to drink at the price.
Then from the Loire Valley comes the Carisannes from Domaine Brochard from a parcel of vines just outside of the Sancerre appellation. It has been made in a different way to Sancerre so it is more New World in character. Fresh and fruity, revealing bright gooseberry aromas, blackcurrant leaf and grapefruit citrus with tropical fruit notes running through.
Over to Italy and there is the ever popular Sauvignon Suade from Astoria Vini. It has aromas of hothouse tomatoes, gooseberries and sweet green leaves. The palate is very fresh and has a perfect balance of fruit and acidity, enlivening the palate and leaving it clean and revitalised.
Then there is our great favourite Indaba from South Africa. A real crowd pleaser, this easy drinking Sauvignon Blanc displays appealing citrus and tropical fruit aromas that lead to a fresh, invigorating palate of pineapple, lemon-lime, mango and green fig. Backed by a solid acidity, herbal undertones shine through on the mineral-tinged finish and luscious tropical fruit. With the origin of this wine coming from a spectrum of vineyard areas, great complexity has been achieved for a remarkably affordable price.
Lastly but most certainly not least is the Terranoble Reserva from the Casablanca Valley in Chile, a prime area for Sauvignon Blanc. The cool climate of the area between Santiago and Valpariaso gives it a wonderfully fresh and vibrant style with elegant aromas of citrus and tropical fruits and, as you would expect, some touches of green capsicum as well. Very persistent in the finish, it makes for a terrific aperitif but also pairs well with fish and seafood.
