Some of the perfect growing regions for the Picpoul white grape variety are found around the Languedoc coastal village of Pinet.
Unusually for France, it has has its own appellation, 'Picpoul de Pinet', which stretches from Pézenas to the fishing port of Sète.
The name 'Picpoul' is said to refer to the habit of the region's chickens, or 'poulets' pecking at the grapes which have been blown off the vines by the local sea breezes.
Although the clear crispness of Vignobles Canet Picpoul De Pinet Tete De Cuvee is consistent with wines produced in cool climates, it is actually able to retain its acidity even in the Mediterranean heat, thanks to the fact that Picpoul ripens so late in the season.
