Domaine Lucien Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Les Angles 2013

Domaine Lucien Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Les Angles 2013 has a delicate ruby colour, and the bouquet is floral and fruity. On the palate it is full of red and black fruit flavours such as Morello cherry, cranberry, blackcurrant and plum. Well structured with a hint of minerality and smooth silky tannins, Pierre Boillot delivers this bright and cerebral Volnay with an angularity and nerve that is fitting of its name.

Pierre Boillot's Volnay Les Angles displays brighter black fruits and firmer tannins than its Brouillards counterpart grown in deeper, Pommard-like soils. Produced from organically grown fruit and fermented with only natural yeasts, this wine ages in less than 30% new barriques for about 16-18 months and is bottled without fining or filtration.

Les Angles is a premier cru climat of the Volnay appellation in the Côte De Beaune. Situated just to the east of Volnay village itself, this walled vineyard is one of several wedged between the village centre and the D973 road as it heads south from Pommard towards Auxey-Duresses.

Volnay's finest vineyards are located in a tight band of high-quality terroir, stretching between its commune boundaries with Pommard in the north and Meursault in the south. Like almost all of the region's most-prized vineyards, they are planted on the mid-slope of the Côte D'Or escarpment. Here, they benefit from well-drained, limestone-rich soils and a south-east-facing aspect, helping the vines to capitalise on the morning and early afternoon sunlight.
