Bladen Marlborough Riesling

Bladen Marlborough Riesling displays aromas of fresh scented lemon and lime citrus fruit with a pithy character and a suggestion of anise. On the palate it is light to medium bodied, with similar vibrant, fresh citrus and spice flavours to the nose. These persist pleasingly on the long, clean finish.

Grown in Bladen's home vineyard, an 8 hectare block located on Conders Bend Road, Renwick in Marlborough's Wairau Valley. Established in 1989, it is planted with Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris (the oldest in Marlborough), and Riesling. These grape varieties are ideally suited to the stony, free-draining, old riverbed soils of the Wairau valley and to the unique Marlborough climate.

Bladen harvests its Riesling in the cool of the evening to the retain all of the flavours of the grapes. Once settled, the clear juice was cold fermented with a selected aromatic yeast strain to preserve the fruit’s intense aromatic flavours. The fermentation was stopped, keeping a small amount of residual sugar to balance the acidity.
