The flagship wine of Bouchard Finlayson first made in 1997 from the estate's own vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. The name Missionvale stems from the vineyards history of being home to a Moravian mission-supported leper colony in the 1820s. This was led by the missionary Peter Leitner, who dedicated his life to caring for the infirm in this particularly beautiful part of the world.

Missionvale Chardonnay was entirely fermented in French oak barrels, 30% of which were new. As a result, the oak is superbly integrated into the ripe, bright fruit flavours of the Chardonnay grape.
