The meticulous savoir-faire of the House of Krug has revealed an exceptional and rare Champagne from an exceptional terroir: Krug Clos Du Mesnil. It expresses the individuality, purity and intensity of a single walled plot of vines, a single grape variety and a single year, in one of the greatest terroirs in the Champagne region.

The single walled vineyard of Krug’s Clos Du Mesnil sits in the heart of Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the most renowned villages for Chardonnay in the Champagne region. This small vineyard of just 1.84 hectare makes Clos Du Mesnil 2000 very rare, only 11,390 individually numbered bottles were produced. Like all Krug Champagnes, it can age beautifully.

Before the harvest, a hailstorm devastated a large part of the village. Situated in its heart, Krug’s Clos Du Mesnil resisted the onslaught better than the other plots as its vines are protected by the surrounding walls and village. Delicious, generous, ripe grapes survived the storm to provide an opulent and elegant Chardonnay.

Krug chose to create Clos Du Mesnil 2000 because the indulgence of the vintage succeeded in fully expressing the potential of the walled plot. It exalts the crisp purity of a single walled vineyard (called a clos in French) and it reveals a precise signature and a striking grace after resting in the cellar for at least ten years.

From Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages:
There was no heatwave in 2000 but overall the summer was quite warm. This will be the next Clos Du Mesnil to be released, but actually I found it a little more generous on the palate than the 1998, even if less developed on the nose. More discreet nose but impressively introvert. Broad on the palate but still very dry on the finish. Austere at the moment but very promising. 18.5 Points

Antonio Galloni writing on Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
The 2000 Brut Blanc de Blancs Clos Du Mesnil is rich, deep, textured and wonderfully complete. The seductiveness of the 2000 vintage comes through beautifully, but the Mesnil has extra dimensions of depth that aren’t found in the Vintage. Smoke, ash, graphite, pastry and lemon are some of the nuances that unfold in this supremely gracious, refined Clos Du Mesnil. I expect the 2000 to take some time to reach its peak, but it is superb, even at this early stage. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035. 95 Points

From Wine Spectator Magazine:
Silky and fine like featherweight cashmere, this vibrant blanc de blancs is nonetheless laden with ample, expressive flavours. Rich hints of XO Cognac and coffee liqueur underscore bergamot and glazed apricot fruit, while smokey minerality, spun honey, grilled nut and exotic spices impart further complexity and linger on the lasting finish. 02/15. 97 Points
