Château Cissac 2016, Haut-Médoc

Chateau Cissac 2016, showing more fruit and density than in previous vintages, is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. This is a lovely vintage in Bordeaux which gave good ripeness to the grapes and this wine exhibits a dense ruby purple colour, good minerality, savoury, dark cassis fruit and an alluring depth and ripeness. Drink it over the next 10 - 12 years.

The Château Cissac vines grow on a plateau with soil composed of gravel deposits from the Garonne River from the Gunz-Mindel period. It sits at an altitude of 27.5m above sea level, equivalent to the highest points of the neighbouring appellations of St-Estèphe and Pauillac. The vines have an average age of 35 years.

A slightly different blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot than used in the last couple of vintages was fermented in temperature regulated wooden and stainless steel vats, and the wine was aged for 14 months in barrels with 30% new wood.
