Chateau Haut-Colombier 2004 is dressed in deep purple, and this Premieres Cotes De Blaye has no shortage of personality. The fruity, oak tinged nose meets an equally aromatic palate of red fruits, spices, toast and grilled nuts. Full and round, supported by discreet fine tannins.

Emmanuel Chéty is the winemaker at Haut-Colombier and is in charge of the vineyards. As is fairly typical in the Côtes De Blaye, these are planted with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, with an average age of around 30 years. After fermentation the wine is left to macerate on the skins for 20 to 30 days before being transferred into oak barrels to finish its ageing. Delicious when young, Château Haut-Colombier is also capable of ageing for a decade or more from the vintage.
