Chateau Musar Mixed Tasting Case
Chateau Musar has become the flagship winery of the Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. Through good times and bad, the Hochar family have continued to make wine from their 180 hectares of vines that date back in part to 1930 when Gaston Hochar first planted in the region. Wine has been a part of the culture however since around 4,500 BC. Even through the troubled times of the civil war 1975 to 1990, wine making continued and Chateau Musar managed to develop a reputation for the excellence of the wines.
This mixed case shows a range of different vintages and styles to allow you to get a “feel” for what Chateau Musar can offer and it could make for great drinking with middle-eastern food or become the basis of a vertical tasting for friends or wine groups.

Chateau Musar Rouge 2010
Chateau Musar 2010 was produced in very small quantity but it turned out to be a wonderful wine. A blend of Carignan, Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon were fermented separately then blended together in 2012. It has great purity with rich plummy fruit, great elegance and a stylish and lingering finish.
Chateau Musar Rouge 2002
Chateau Musar 2002 is deep crimson - even blood red - in colour with an intense and complex nose of spicy red fruits and cedar with deeper plum notes. Generous red and black fruit characters follow through to the palate, combining with notes of Christmas cake spices, figs, dates and stewed plums. This richly-fruited wine shows good acidity, silky tannins and a long, promising finish.
Chateau Musar Rouge 2000
The colour is a deep dark red, perhaps darker than usual at Chateau Musar. The nose is a complex intriguing mixture of figs, prunes, leather, dark tea, tobacco, black olives and spices with a certain earthiness. On the palate you will find ripe black cherries, figs, damsons - even chocolate and olives. There is good acidity with nice smooth tannins resulting in a wine which is full bodied, rich and velvety with a very long finish.
Chateau Musar Rouge 1998
This is a Cinsault dominated wine which eminates from a fairly cool vintage thus it is elegant with plenty of finesse. It has good depth on the palate with some developed notes of game and a good acidity. Although it is not a heavy wine, it has good staying power on the palate and will be very pleasing to Bordeaux drinkers and Lebanese lovers alike.
