Ciabot Berton Barolo 2010 is dark, aromatic and meaty on the nose, the palate is fresh and lively with the all of the tell-tale notes of roses and tar. There is plenty of spice and a balsamic/citrus peel freshness, all of which culminates in a pleasingly grand finish. You can certainly drink this now, but over the next few years it will become an increasingly complex treat for you to enjoy.

Ciabot Berton are based in the commune of La Morra and they own six vineyards in the prestigious crus of Santa Maria. Here they produce their “family” Barolo, blended from grapes grown in three of their vineyards - Bricco San Biaggio, Rive and Roggeri. Because of the varying terroirs it draws upon, this Barolo expresses more of the typical characters of the commune than a single vineyard wine might be able to. The ripe Nebbiolo grapes undergo a long period of maceration post fermentation, before being aged in Slavonian oak botti.
Why we like this wine
Barolo is not a cheap wine (the versions are simply Nebbiolo!) but this exceptional wine truly reflects the style and quality that the Langhe hills can give. Ciabot Berton are increasingly being recognised for their quality but this has not impacted on their pricing. The wine remains of the finest quality at very honest pricing.

Ciabot Berton Barolo 2010, a blend from the Roggeri, San Biagio and Rive vineyards. Tight, peppery and sweet with a herbal note and a little dusty at first. Capably made Barolo, in its restrained character going against the usually opulent La Morra style. Perhaps not that polished or complex, but long and satisfying and delicious. Ready now, 14.5%.
