Clos de l'Oratoire - St Emilion Grand Cru Classe 2012
This terrific St Emilion has benefitted from etremely low yields in 2012 with just 25 hectolitres per hectare produced. Thus the wine is very concentrated and intense. It is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that has loads of blackcurrant, licorice and spices on both the palate and the nose.It has a rounded, glycerin note on the palate reminiscent of Allenbury's pastilles (Childhood comes back to me) with great purity of fruit. At 13 % alcohol it's not overblown and for sure it's very fruity. Lovely to drink now but will hold well in bottle if properly cellared for some 10 or 15 years to come.
